Dwarf Japanese Gardenia makes an excellent bonsai subject. The flowers have a strong sweet odor.
They do well indoors, and will flower when they receive direct sun for at least a few hours a day.
They do even better when kept outdoors in warm weather.
Avoid direct mid-day sun in the middle of summer to reduce leaf-scorching. They do best in an acidic well draining soil.
An acid based plant food is best, but they will tolerate regular plant food as well.
Avoid misting when there are flower buds present.
