The Golden Elephant Bush, (also known as South African Jade or Portulacaria Afra) is a small-leafed succulent tree with a rough woody trunk and branches. It has green & golden yellow leaves. More information below the photos.
Light golden-green new growth gives this variety of Portulacaria a colorful appearance. They will survive with little direct sun, or with all-day sun. They are known as "Elephant Bush" because in South Africa elephants consume them, and they can account for as much as 80% of an elephant's diet. They are extremely resilient and will re-grow new leaves and branches in a week or two after being eaten almost to the ground by elephants. Like the Hawaiian Umbrella Tree, it is the perfect bonsai for an office, or for someone who has little direct sunlight available, or who is away from their home or office for days at a time.
