If kept outdoors it can tolerate temperatures in the teens and be buried under snow. If kept indoors during the winter it MUST be kept in a cool to cold location On (NOT JUST NEAR) a deep window sill that doesn’t have a radiator beneath it is best.

My first bonsai was a Dwarf Japanese Juniper. Since 1976, I have sold tens of thousands of bonsai. I would estimate that close to half of these have been Dwarf Japanese Juniper. Considering that I have a list of nearly 200 cultivars that I have offered for sale over the years, that is a startling amount. The reason is that the Dwarf Japanese Juniper looks like most peoples idea of what a bonsai is. In addition, It is strong, relatively pest free, easy to care for, readily available, and adapts to a wide variety of conditions.
