The European Olive (Olea Europaea) is native to Southern Italy and nearby regions of the Mediterranean. They produce olives which can be cured and eaten on their own or pressed to produce olive oil. More information below the photos.
In nature they can grow to 50 feet. Today there are hundreds of cultivars of the olive tree. the exact cultivar determines the tree's characteristics and the size, shape & color of its olives. Fossils of the olive tree indicate that it dates back 20 to 40 million years ago.
